On the Road Again: June 23 & 24 2021

Our "have a meaningful experience in every Wisconsin county" continued after the Covid 19 Pandemic hiatus - Dunn, Pierce, and Eau Claire counties added to the total of 61 out of 72 visited since 2012 - the year we moved to Middleton/Madison. Our 2 1/2 day excursion included a hike into the Devil's Punchbowl near Menomonie, followed by lunch at the Acoustic Cafe, and a walk around the UW Stout Campus & Menomonie historic district. We walked the bridges of Eau Claire including Phoenix Park on Riverfront Terrace. Day 1 ended with a beautiful outdoor dining experience at Stella Blues & a perfect weather evening at our Home 2 Suites. On our second day, Thursday 24th we traveled to Pierce County to walk on the Swinging Bridge in Glen Park, River Falls. Later we hiked some of the trails of Kinnickinnic State Park , had lunch at a "pulled pork" place (for Sarah) & then took a stroll through a well documented time capsule - the Chippewa Valley Museum - an accurate and revealing account of the best and worst of inhabitants of the area - from the mistreatment of the first inhabitants and KKK influence to the pioneer experience, early industries, natural wilderness and Hmong immigrants. Most photographs were taken with a Canon EOS R6 with 24mm-105mm f/4 plus two Samsung Smartphones.

410th Street, Menomonie, WI Dunn County This unique and fragile rock feature was created by glacial forces and allows us to look back over 500 million years of geologic time. The "Punch Bowl" appeared to be very low on punch during our visit ( the stream was very shallow) but it still was a geological treat.

    Dairyland is still in Wisconsin

Between towns and cities the country is still covered by farms of many sizes. Data from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture revealed that a record 10% of dairy farms in Wisconsin shuttered last year. It topped 2018's loss of 7.25%. For years, US dairy has struggled with too much milk production and low prices due to low consumer demand. ...Jan 9, 2020

Mable Tainter Memorial -she died at 19 years old.

The Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts, originally named the Mabel Tainter Memorial Building and also known as the Mabel Tainter Theater, is a historic landmark in Menomonie, Wisconsin, and is registered on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. built in 1889. Wikipedia details https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mabel_Tainter_Memorial_Building The Mabel Tainter Theater is one of the top historic places in Menomonie constructed in 1889 by Harvey Ellis. It is a memorial built for Mabel Tainter by her parents Andrew and Bertha Tainter. With its beautiful architectural design and secrets to why it was built; the theater attracts people from all over. There is a mystery to what happened in the building and suspicion has lead people to believe this building is haunted by Mabel. The Mabel Tainter Theater has had a strong influence over the town’s history and the people. A lot of effort was put into designing and building this spectacular theater. It’s an outstanding learning experience for everyone especially students. I encourage everyone to take a tour of the theater and explore the past history of this town.
