Kenosha & Walworth County & Lake Geneva Adventure October 2017
Our " have a meaningful experience in every Wisconsin county" bucket list continued with a four day trek (Oct. 19th - 22nd) to the Southeastern counties of Kenosha and Walworth. Our explorer base was Cove Point on the shore of Lake Geneva, a resort community since just after the Civil War when wealthy Chicago families discover the area and started building summer homes there. Today the elegant estates still ring the lake which includes a 21 mile Shore Path open to the public (even as it crosses private property). Here are images captured during our four days beginning with a visit to the 1866 Lighthouse & Museum in Kenosha; followed by a tour of the Jelly Belly distribution warehouse (Internet sales) & showroom (Pleasant Prairie). Our second day began with a delightful breakfast at the local Simple followed by a trek along some of the mansions and condominiums until we reached Big Foot Beach State Park. Later we began the exploration of Lake Geneva including the Maple Park and Main Street on the National Historic Registry. Day 3 including further exploration of Lake Geneva's homes and history including the Museum and Pioneer Cemetery. In the afternoon we headed to other the communities of Williams Bay & Fontana and walked portions of the short path. Day 4 brought our first day of rain so with coffee and fresh baked goodies to go from Simple we headed to downtown Elkorn, the county seat of Walworth county & then back to Middleton.
