Old Town San Juan & Vieques Family Adventure
Our trip to Puerto Rico beings on the 1st day of 2012, with an afternoon, night and early morning in the Old Town of San Juan. On January 2nd we travel to Fajardo and ferry across the Atlantic to Isabelle II, Vieques. Vieques lies about 10 miles off the east coast of Puerto Rico's main island, with twice the acreage of Manhattan and many times the charm of other islands its size. The Taino Indians who first settled the island called it Bieques, or "small island"; Columbus named it Graciosa (gracious). English pirates called it "Crab Island" for the still-common land crabs they'd depend on for a tasty dinner. And the Spanish (who built the lighthouse and the unfinished fort) called Vieques and Culebra las islas inutiles - the "useless islands" - because neither had gold. Join the seven of us (August, Laura, Gabriel, Mike, Erica, Sarah, Kent) as we explore this colorful world with its own unique traditions and heritage. Just a reminder - American visitors can travel without a Passport and use dollars just like at home.
