MBM: Henry Purcell's Baroque Opera Dido & Aeneas & J.S. Bach's Coffee Cantata 04.08.2018
On Sunday afternoon, April 8th 2018, the Madison Bach Musicians served up more than fresh brewed coffee. First up was comedy: the Coffee Cantata (Kaffeekantate, BWV211) of J.S. Bach, not a composer usually remembered for his sense of humor. Zimmermann's Coffee House, Leipzig -frequented by Bach https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caf%C3%A9_Zimmermann The other work composed around the time of Bach's birth almost half a century earlier is the compact chamber opera Dido & Aeneas by the brilliant and sadly short-lived English composer Henry Purcell (1659-1695) Here are images captured before, during and at intermission along with portraits - some posed and some not of musicians, volunteers, staff and patrons of Madison Bach Musicians.
