20th Annual United Way Bluegrass Benefit @ Barrymore Theatre 2.20.2022

On an unusually warm (50 degrees F) Madison winter afternoon, between waves of cold, wind chills and ice came the break this mask wearing, social distancing pandemic needed - Bluegrass Music & foot tapping family fun!

The annual United Way Bluegrass Benefit returned after a too long pandemic pause - with a slew of amazing regional bluegrass bands: Strings to Roam, Sparetime Bluegrass, Art Stevenson & Highwater, and Soggy Prairie. Dave Landall - The King of Kids Music got the young ones dancing, and running and hopping for a high energy stage front performance.

Here are images before and during the performances including backstage and downstairs glimpses of these talented artists. This is the 20th United Way of Dane County fundraiser hosted inside the timeless Barrymore Theatre, 2090 Atwood Ave., Madison, WI 53704

Sound by Audrey Martinovich from Audio for the Arts, Videography by Henry Vanderhill, and Photography by Kent Sweitzer.

    Stephanie & Emily

Stephanie and Emily are two of the founding members of Strings to Roam, which originally formed in 2019 from a group of women who got together to jam. Bass player Colleen Robinson was to join early on. Isthmus magazine (a Madison publication) said “The group played big right out of the gate - having first performed at the Barrymore Theater as part of the annual United Way Bluegrass Benefit in 2020.” Unfortunately, shortly after that, with the pandemic shutdown, there were no opportunities for public performances.
