Rusk County Winter Adventure with Allison & Elizabeth 2015
On Friday, January 30th, 2015, the four winter explorers (Allison, Elizabeth, Sarah and Kent) headed to Northwest Wisconsin to experience the Winter Wonderland of Rusk County, close to Allison's hometown of Bloomer and near the town of Bruce, WI. Allison's family cottage is nestled between the Chippewa and Flambeau Rivers, and sits adjacent to Pulaski Lake and a wilderness wetland. We hiked for hours on snow and the frozen Chippewa River using snowshoes for the deepest portions. At the cottage we feasted on high energy snacks and enjoyed the creative work of several chefs. Kick back time included a friendly Euchre tournament (ended in a tie), puzzles, reading, and napping. After breakfast on Sunday, alerted to a National Storm Warning for Southern Wisconsin we headed back home, encountering wind and flurries for much of the trek and upon arrival in Middleton, were greeted with a driveway and sidewalks with 5-7 inches of snow and drifting winds. With a wave of energy we all shoveled out Elizabeth's parked car and with everyone on their way, spent the evening watching the Super Bowl without snowshoes.
