Halloween on Amherst 2014 with Allen's Visit
Friday, October 31st is Halloween "Trick or Treat" evening on Amherst. Our first "trick or treaters" arrived early at 5:45 p.m and our last a few minutes before 8:00 p.m - we turned off the porch lights and called it a wrap. We had approximately 70 "trick or treaters" including parents and ran a market test - "Would you like a Halloween pencil or a piece of candy?" Eight selected pencils and the remainder selected candy. One thoughtful young girl took about 15 seconds to make the decision and decided "pencil" while one young boy laughed followed by a rapid "candy" and left at high speed. Some were very polite and others took off in waves on a mission to cover as many homes as possible until the curfew. One Dad watched carefully as his little gremlin agonized over the pencil or candy and upon hearing "candy" he rolled his eyes ....probably hoping for one less piece of candy to monitor upon the return home. All in all it was again a lot of fun and a convenient way to watch the kids on Amherst (and surrounding blocks) grow up and to meet some of the parents that live in the neighborhood.
Sarah's cousin Allen Haynes visited on Sunday and Monday - Allen still hosts the pumpkin carving Halloween back on County Road 15 in Auburn so this was a Halloween reunion of sorts. Look for Ruth with her Mom and Dad in the Halloween series.
