Moving Out-Moving On-Moving to Middleton, Wisconsin

After months in the planning; moving day arrives for Kent & Sarah after 31 years in the country (with May 2007-May 2009 in Japan while Susan and Jerry Korchyk lived here). Our "Two Men and a Truck" are Kenny and Chris, based in Ft. Wayne, IN. They lift, disassemble, pack, carry, load, secure, drive the 320 miles to Middleton, WI, and put every single item where we request including re-assembly. They are two of the nicest, strongest and hardest working guys you will ever meet. Here's a photojournalism diary covering our last full day at County Road 15, our transition time, and then the move in at 2414 Amherst Road, Middleton, WI 53562 on Monday, September 17th, Kent's Birthday.

Our last "official" early fall morning sunrise on the farm - have always loved the misty creek fog and the shades of pink, purple and orange in the morning.

  • Our last "official" early fall morning sunrise on the farm - have always loved the misty creek fog and the shades of pink, purple and orange in the morning.
  • Early morning sunlight touches the house and garage - fall light is magical.
  • Walnut Lane looking west to the neighbor's place.
  • To the south - in the distance are the silos that mark Sarah and her family's homestead, now farmed by cousins. The tree to the near right has been photographed many times in different seasons by me - sometimes referred to as "Uncle Wayne's tree"
  • Room by room is marked and stacked and staged. Some items are marked "STAY" so they don't go on the truck - Austin and Ashley Freels will put them to use or pass them on. Bins are for transport and storage while most boxes will be unpacked.
  • The "Yellow Floor" room used by our daughters, with a Jenny Lynn bed that will make the move.
  • Even the last of the garden produce will make the move - too nice and fresh to part with.
  • The most lived in space in our country home, now becomes the staging area for many boxes and antiques.

  • Kent's office is packed and ready to move.
  • Camera and computer gear and hard to pack items will go via our car.
  • Lawn and garden tools, shop tools and even a sand turtle, Art Easel, Scoop from Sweden for Ruth Grace plus a hammock - some of these decisions took more "discussion" than others.
  • This is the metal cabinet that was in my Dad's Office in Pennsylvania as long as he was alive. After my mother died, it found its way to Indiana. I just refinished it by sanding, priming and putting on a protective no rust coat. It will be used to store tools and garage items in Middleton.
  • Starlight, the Llama knows something is going on...she decided to stay put on the farm.
  • While waiting for Two Men in a Truck, Sarah passed the time among the boxes and bins by doing Sudoko puzzles.
  • John and Kay Reinoehl, our good friends, stop by to help out on moving day. They were wondering if they had the wrong day - no one seemed to be here. The "Two Men in a Truck" were running a little late but were on the way.
  • "Two Men in a Truck" arrives backing in the lane.
  • Here's our "Two Men in a Truck" - Kenny and Chris. They are super guys and really did a superb job for us.
  • Sarah gives a few instructions about the labeling - what moves and what doesn't and then they are ready to go.
