Indiana Thanksgiving @ Beth & Jim Sweitzer-Riley's

Photography by Sweitzer Brothers Glenn (GS) & Kent, at the home of Aunt Beth and Uncle Jim Sweitzer-Riley, near North Manchester and Silver Lake, Indiana. This year's gathering was planned to connect some of the Hoosier Sweitzers (Glenn, Bryan and Leo, Muncie, Indiana, Beth and Jim Sweitzer-Riley) and to re-connect the recently moved to Wisconsin family (Kent & Sarah Sweitzer). Just a few short weeks ago it was hoped that Brother Wendell and his wife Connie from Pennsylvania would be joining the Thanksgiving Day reunion, but tragically, Wendell had a stroke and other health complications intervened. After the weekend, Sarah's sister Rebecca was to undergo major open heart surgery and on Thanksgiving morning Anna Ruth fell at her Provena home, adding significant chronic pain to every movement. Nevertheless, for all the reasons that family still is family those that were able and willing gathered, prayed and played, laughed and cried, rejoiced, dined like royalty, posed, and continued the tradition of giving thanks for all that we have had and now have. Cousin Jeanne Eikenberry and her husband Jeff from North Manchester joined the Sweitzer-Haynes tribe for part of the day. Here are some of the snapshots of Thanksgiving Day 2012.

  • This is easier...just relax and smile.
  • Aunt Beth, Jeff, & Leo domino (GS) Some heavy concentration going on.
  • Domino sharks at work (and play).
  • And here it is...tumbling dominos by Leo Sweitzer....ta da !!!
  • Uncle advice (GS) "Look Bryan, you can jump over five marbles and bring your back marble all the way forward"
  • A nice relaxed ending to a Thanksgiving Day celebration. Looks just like it used to in simpler times - sitting by the fire on the rocking chair or playing games on the living room floor.......no Nintendo or Sega or Star Wars or texting.
  • Anna Ruth resting enroute home to Provena (GS). Kent & Glenn drove Anna Ruth back to Provena in Avilla, Indiana and then returned to Beth and Jim's - we stayed overnight. Each Thanksgiving is a reminder of how much changes in one year and how much we have to be thankful for. The journey continues.
